Community Challenge

Our event is a community initiative run by volunteers. We are running a number of competitions. The emphasis is on healthy, sustainable living.

Our main contest is the Community Challenge Cup.

The challenge is a great opportunity to raise the profile of your sporting team, business or community group. There is strong local and international media interest in this event. It’s also a lot of fun, while serving to create a strong sense of team loyalty.

We encourage all riders to artistically decorate themselves, groups of uniformed riders are particularly welcome. If your riders are bold enough, they may wish to enter “The Human Rainbow" which will lead our parade. These riders will be painted in bands of colour but can wear only very brief clothing, see the “what to wear“ page for more information.

The group which enters the highest number of riders will win an engraved trophy cup and a major prize will be presented to the Group leader. Our aim is to reward the people who do all the organising and motivating in your group.

It is very easy to register for the Challenge. Name your group and we will list it with your hyperlink, (if desired,) and number of riders on our Community Challenge page. As Group organiser you are responsible for submitting a registration form for each rider. You should ensure every member of your team is familiar with the "rules of the ride", and encourage them to collect sponsors.

-You may add riders as they join, you can start a group with just three riders.

-Riders do not need to be members or employees of your group.

-The Group organiser does not have to ride personally, but each group must have a designated team leader during the ride.

-Painted riders count twice for the challenge.

-If you wish to ride together you must all be painted the same colour or ride with the unpainted (I.e. dressed) riders. You do not have to ride as a group, some of your members may wish to be painted and some may not. It is preferred for road safety reasons, (and more FUN,) if the whole team does ride together.

-We will count your team at the Prize Presentation Ceremony before the ride. You should try to have a banner or flag to rally around when it is time to count the teams.

-Painted riders may add their group logo to their arms and legs, bicycles can be decorated, preferably in appropriate colours. We prefer to keep the backs and chests a single colour to create an overall rainbow effect.

-Some small logos on the body are permitted at the Artist’s discretion, ride sponsors are permitted logos on chest and back, but the Artists will rule out too many extra logos if they feel that the overall artwork is compromised. Please consult with us now if it is important to you to carry a particular logo or design, we will do our best to accommodate you.

-You may add your own appropriately coloured jewellery. You can add balloons or flags to your bikes, helmets etc.

We hope you will be interested in taking up our challenge. The 2005 Cup was won by a team from Sydney University. Challenge other groups to take part in the ride. You can compete to see who can raise the most funds, and for highest number of riders. It’s a great way to meet other groups with similar interests to your own.

Register your team as early as possible!
